New Updates Whatsapp Introduces To Its Status Highlight

In lieu of its eighth birthday on February 24, 2017, WhatsApp messenger, the instant messaging platform introduced a new update which is set to revamp the status feature.Beginning today, the status feature update will enable users to share images and videos and recording with all their WhatsApp contacts. Like the text messages, this too will be encrypted end-to-end.Earlier in February, WhatsApp presented a two-step verification feature, said to add more greater  security to a user's account.

Mark Zuckerberg has announced his vision of a video-first social media strategy and the recent revamping of Facebook and its subsidiaries reflects this paradigm-shift. Facebook Live and Instagram Stories have been a runaway hit and the Instagram feature, in particular, has stolen a large chunk of Snapchat's user base. A similar feature on WhatsApp — which, with a user base of over a billion, dwarves both Instagram and Snapchat in number of daily users — will probably spell doom for the company that came up with the idea in the first place.

How to create a WhatsApp status
  • Open WhatsApp and touch the 'Status' tab at the top of the screen
  • Tap on the 'My status' icon, which has a green circle with a white + sign in it
  • You will then be able to take a new photo, record a video or upload an existing file
  • Once you've done this you can add your own drawings, as well as emojis and text
  • Finally, tap the 'Send' button

"Starting today, we are rolling out an update to status, which allows you to share photos and videos with your friends and contacts on WhatsApp in an easy and secure way."
  • 1bn    WhatsApp has more than one billion users
  • 50bn    Users send more than 50 billion messages a day
  • 3.3bn    photos are sent each day, according to WhatsApp
